Tween seems

Another cold and foggy day with plenty of rig rain. For work party we started to hammer the seams because it’s too difficult to reeve. Ended up spending some time furling because we are going to anchor tonight.

Furled

Morning watch was beautiful and warm but slowly got colder. For work party it ended up raining and we had to furl everything but the staysails, maintop and fore course.

Sextants

Watch this morning was great, the fog cleared and the sun came out. For work party we ended up wearing and tacking ship. Evening watch was really amazing, clear sky with bright stars, Peter tried to shoot some stars and Ashley was hanging out with us and told us a lot about stars. We also ended up furling right when we got on to watch and that always makes things go by faster.

Fog

There was still a lot of fog this morning on watch, so much that the rig was raining on us. By the end of watch it started to clear up a bit more. For work party everyone was in the galley, painting and scouring pots. We made about 200 miles and crossed into Canadian waters as well. Evening watch was creepy, it was still really foggy and we saw a strange light on the horizon, at first we thought it was the moon but then it got bigger and we saw a small light amongst the glow.

Getting underway

Left our anchorage this morning after Brooke went off and got her passport, I’m really glad that Robin decided it was okay to wait for her. It was all hands this morning so watch seemed really short, A watch has the 8 to 12, giving us the longest work day. While hauling up the anchor I had the fire hose over the side to clean off any debris, we ended up having a lobster pot tangled around the chain. We eased Zach down on the gantline to cut it off.

Watches got switched around a bit again.

A watch: Peter, Tom, Steve, Tenely, Grant and I. Grant and I are the only two who have never missed an A watch.

B watch: Darren, Jesse, Mitch, Katie, Amy and Cliff.

C watch: Cory, Zach, Brooke, Scottie, Doug and Rich.

Leaving Land

Our first day underway wasn’t really that much. Motored out a bit and dropped anchor. We are waiting on Brooke’s passport to get here; it’ll arrive sometime tomorrow morning hopefully. We saw the Lynx go by us and waved goodbye to her.

Goodbye land, hello sea

Had work party this morning A watch did a deck wash and then sea stowed. We also worked on making the lifelines and stanchions easier for us to pull up when we do MOB drills. Got some more painting done and threw out a lot of trash. We were stood down at noon and given $10 from crew fund, Brooke, Amy, Katie, Grant and I went to get ice cream. Our last few hours on shore till we spend about three weeks at sea. We are going to sail up to Maine, around Nova Scotia and through the St. Lawrence Seaway. We are suppose to be in Rochester, New York on June 24th.
