Bass Island, OH

Pancakes for breakfast with berries then helped sail off the hook. Made chili for lunch, Little Frog told me to add peanut butter and it was just the thing it was missing, served it with fried corn cakes, and needs a little honey next time. Docked at Bass Island in Put In Bay, OH, some War of 1812 history stuff happened there. Had the afternoon off and walked around, small little town, some of the boys rented golf carts and went around the island.

Cooking

Fried eggs again which everyone loves, bacon and cinnamon bread. The lakes have calmed down a lot and we turned out of lake Michigan and into Huron. Made rice noodle stir-fry for lunch and ham, squash, potatoes and ginger snaps for dinner. Finally got to take a shower, the water maker wasn’t working before because of some filter.

Sunday

Today was a boat Sunday so I took it easy in the cooking department as well. Cereal for breakfast, chicken noodle soup and more hot sauce bread, lasagna that Dina had made ahead and brownies for dinner. Katie helped me think of what to make tomorrow for food, it always takes me awhile to decide. Made cinnamon raisin bread for breakfast tomorrow.

Fried eggs

Robin helped me make fried eggs, flipping them with a spatula is too hard so just making sure they are loose in the pan and tossing makes it easier. I am pretty oblivious to what’s gong on around me and don’t peek on deck as often as I should, we are going pretty fast and missed most of the storm. Had soup and sandwiches for lunch and red kidney bean curry, basmati rice, and ginger squash for dinner. I keep making lots of bread and it keeps disappearing.

I'm the cook

Peter and Dina left last night to take a week off, so that means that I’m the cook for this next transit. Had muffins and fruit for breakfast then Dan had me join them aloft on the main topsail so I could learn to reef it along with everyone else. Robin says he prefers to reef before the weather if he’s going to reef at all.

Corn chowder and hot sauce bread for lunch that was a big hit, also made oatmeal bread and lemon squares. For dinner I made black pepper beef, barley and cabbage salad. Work party caulked the tweens; we were heeling a lot so they kept sliding around along with my pots on the stove.

Storm

Since the kids were off doing their own thing we didn’t have to play with them, we spent all day caulking the tweens. Fro dinner we had a pot luck with the other boats and the kids, each group of kids performed a skit and then there were a few extras. As the night came to an end we could see a storm coming, most of the sailors just kept looking at it, watching it get closer and we knew we had to get back to our boat. The sky was purple, some of the weather hit us that night while on the dock, had to tie some things down.

Milwaukee

Sailed off the hook, which appeared to be in slow motion, eventually struck and motored. Got to the dock in Milwaukee at 3 so the kids from the other boats could come play on ours. We rotated climbing the head rig, bracing and some ecology class in the great cabin.

Dinner was amazing, Dina got jalapeno and cheese bratwurst from some local market in town; she grew up in Milwaukee. The Dennis Sullivan has a crew lounge because this is their hometown, computer, bunk beds, tv, laundry and showers.
