In Bermuda, oops

The Bounty has arrived in Bermuda, thanks to facebook I got lots of info and some pictures.

From Mitch:

Arrived in Bermuda on Bounty for an unscheduled stop to pick up a new bilge pump. So far in Seven days since leaving Maine, we've snapped the for t-gallant mast in half, shredded our double reefed main topsail, split a seem on the forsail, the wind blew the main royal out of its gaskets and split it, split in the spanker... fire on the stbd main engine hydrolic fluid line (discharged an entire extinguisher and some to put it out at midnight in my underwear), 15 -25 ft seas for 3 days (enough to make our new cook seemingly go mad), one working bilge pump, 5 gallon bucket of white primer spilt in bosuns, no braces for the main tgallant and main royal, and were supposed to have our crowjack, mizzen topsail yard, mizz. tgallant yard, mizz. royal not to mention the mizz. tgallant mast rigged before we arrive in Puerto Rico. Gotta love it.

Done

Cinnamon and Marmalade Rolls

I don’t want to :(. Richard, Katie, Jesse and I all left today, Katie on a train to Boston, Richard to Chicago to see a friend and then on to Minnesota and Jesse and I to Eugene, Oregon.

What fate lies in store for Bounty, I don’t know. There is talk of her launching this week, but then the weather might not be the right conditions, so she might have to wait. The yard is suppose to be hauling out another boat in the first week of December so she’ll be gone by then.

I was on Bounty for 360 days, 5 days short of a full year. For the past year I’ve not spent more than two nights away from the boat, not had more than two days off in a row and at times hardly had a day off a week. I’ve enjoyed every moment of my time, the good and the bad, but I’ll be back for more next year.

For the time being I’ll put this blog on hold, when I hear information about where the boat is or things from crew still on I’ll post, but that could be awhile.

Last full day

Breakfast Sandwiches

Chili and corn bread

Lobster rolls

Pork chops, stuffing and green bean casserole.

Last full day of work, sad to be going, but it is time. Had my exit interview with John, it went really well, we talked about this season, what things I liked what I thought people could do better. Also talked individually about people, how I liked them, the way they worked and how things could be changed and improved. In the end he said that the one thing that I could improve on was something I want to improve on as well, my physical shape.

Tortillas

Blueberry cornmeal pancakes

Haniese Chicken Rice

Pulled pork tacos

Katie and Jesse took the afternoon off so they could mail some things home and pack some more, so I got to hang out with them a bit. Richard is also leaving on Monday with us, he said he’s just has had enough of it and is getting tired. I think it’s more of the yard period that is making people quite.

They're back

Fried eggs with garlic rice and tocino

Roti Prata with curry sauce and pulled tea

Pasta Carbonara with brussel sprouts, bread and pecan pie

It’s funny having Caleb and Rebecca back, I’ve seen them through out the season for a few days, but now they are here to work and take care of the boat over the winter. I’m glad to know that the boat will be in good hands.

Next year

Cinnamon buns

Butternut squash soup with hot sauce bread

Butter chicken, potatoes and peas

I asked cap about Aaron and I cooking next year and that I’d like an answer sooner rather than later because I’d do things differently over the winter. He said that Bob is out of money and that things are always unsure of until the last minute, just the usual way Bounty is run. He’s 99% sure that we’ll still be going to Europe, but there is still that 1% chance that a movie deal will come up or something better. Peter is doing the hiring and I guess he was told to wait until January and see how money issues and other opportunities go.

Down to 10

Eggs and tosino

French onion soup

Swedish meatballs with egg noodles

Things are being set back as usually, they are having trouble getting the shafts in and that might mean they don’t splash until Monday or later, they’d be lucky to do it on Thursday. The strainers and through hulls are all back in place and slats have been put on the mizzen top. And Tenley fixed the poop tube and painted the roman numerals. I went shopping and hardly filled my cart because there are only 10 people on now.

Fried chicken

I feel bad that I’m letting Robin down and leaving early, but I’ve been around for almost a year, I didn’t skip out half way through and I’ve been cooking as well.

Boat leave with out me...

Eggs and lots of bacon

Leftover stirfry

Brisket and latkes at Jojo’s request.

This afternoon Robin said the boat might be leaving Thursday, this Thursday, a few days before I even plan on leaving. It’s a little heart breaking knowing that I’ve decided not to be on the boat for the transit south, but I’ve put in plenty of time and Katie is leaving around that same time as well. I want to stay but I want to go, but most of all I know on that transit south I’d be miserable. I’d have been on over a year, it would be freezing, hardly any people so we’d most likely not sail.

All that is left is Chris, Richard, Mitch and Tenley, the last of the most experienced people are leaving.
