Painting the Cornucopia and the Bunker

After the usual up and over and the scrubbing of decks Katie and I went back to work on the stern. Brought the staging up a little so we wouldn’t have such a hard time getting up and down and then we went to town with the yellow paint. Had a good time back there, just hanging out and getting the job done. It’s funny when people come by they wave or ask if we are reenacting. Yes this is how they would have done it in the old days.

At one point Rebecca popped her head out from the great cabin windows and also Maisie came by and grabbed my foot through the window, yeah, ha ha. Later Maisie was eavesdropping on us from the railing overhead, we just happened to be talking about conjoined twins. Katie then asked her about why there were two random elephants among the cornucopia on the stern. She said that you’re only a true Bounty sailor when you can find the elephants, looks like that’s only Katie and I so far out of the new crew. Maisie went on to explain that some guy who was on the ship was the one who started it and now there are random elephants everywhere, like a drawing of one where the crew hang their cups and even one at the very top of the main mast.

Before lunch we all got to go on a short field trip to get a tour of the Bunker with some people who were just finishing a tour on the ship. We forgot Peter, but oh well and Chuck was on a food run. We went to the main building and that was the Coast Guard Boat House where the boats were housed while waiting for distress calls. Then to the old Coast Guard house where they lived and what not. And lastly to the bunker where the Kennedy’s would have stayed had there been any bomb threats or something of the like. It was interesting to a degree, just something small and different to go look at.

Then after lunch we went back to work, moved the staging again and climbed back down, or rather fall the last two inches. Finished up some more painting and a bit under the railing. Helped Ashley put on the last of the second coat of oil to the pin rails that she had started sanding the other day, boy was that sticky.

Sam came back.

Had dinner and now some of the crew have gone for a short shore run. Beer and what not.
